BOUJLOUD IN IMLIL

Boujloud, or “Belmaun,” is a popular Berber tradition. It is organized every year during the days following Eid al-Adha, in villages and cities in the Souss region, in the center of the country, during which a group of young people disguise themselves in strange costumes and masks, made mainly of goat and sheep skins, and walk around to the sound of drums and popular songs. Carrying the stalks of livestock with which they threaten to beat anyone who refuses to give them dirhams or gifts.
